Nimbus Cloudbook: Open Sky
Nimbus is a young storm cloud. One stormy night over the Pacific Ocean, she fell out of the atmospheric river where she had spent her entire young life. Morning found her mired in a coastal fog bank, alone and unsure of her next step.
A sea eagle named Segal planned to spend the morning looking for breakfast. Instead, he found himself circling a cloud reforming from where only fog belonged.
Here beyond the atmospheric river, every breeze had its own opinion.
Segal had spent his life reading those opinions.
He knew where the morning air climbed the hillsides, where sea breezes yielded to mountain winds, where valleys gathered fog, and where the day's warmth built invisible stairways into the sky.
Nimbus had always traveled with her herd. The river carried them all. Lift arrived when it was needed. Direction was something the current decided.
Outside the river, every decision belonged to Nimbus.
Segal simply knew where to begin.
Lux Oceanbook: Open Water
Lux the lanternfish sleeps fin to fin, nose to tail, with millions of other lanternfish.
By day, they drift together through the cool blue twilight thousands of feet beneath the ocean surface. By night, they rise toward the moonlit surface to feed, joining the largest daily migration on Earth.
Each evening, Lux meets his friend Jelly at the nightly buffet. As darkness settles over the surface, familiar neighbors arrive from every direction. Squid flash through the blue. Tuna and dolphins hunt among the schools. Whales appear without warning. Tiny shrimp, krill, and drifting crab larvae drift with the Current, each playing a small part in one of the busiest neighborhoods on Earth.
